saffron india restaurant opening this month
Coming soon to the 505 Flower mall at City National Plaza is Saffron India Restaurant, set to open next month.
Though it appears the “fast/casual” concept will be catering to the daytime office crowd, adding flavorful Indian fare to the relatively stale mix of eateries in the Financial District is a welcomed change by all.
City National Plaza underwent a radical remodel starting in 2003, when owner Thomas Properties Group purchased the iconic twin-building complex with a high vacancy rate. They have since leased out a substantial portion of the empty space as the Downtown office market continues to tighten.
Upgrades to the large underground food court have helped to freshen the cavernous space and lure new tenants, but many close their doors early in the evening due to a lack of customers after dark. Something tells me that won’t change anytime soon.

Many of the places there do close their doors early, but the Weiland Brewery does NOT, and it is absolutely the largest restaurant in the whole place.
Yeah!!! I can hardly wait to try this place. I hope they at least stay open till 7:00.
me too… definitely need something new in that place. hope its good!
i heard it open last week but havent had a chance to try it. is it worthwhile???
I tried Saffron today — after much anticipation, it’s finally open. It’s new so they need a little work, but I’m hoping they can pull it together fast or they’ll be left in the dust. I ordered the chicken daal, but it wasn’t great. A bit watery for my taste. Next time, I’ll try the tikka — and be sure to ask for freshly made naan. I gave them my feedback (hey, they even asked for it - so many don’t!) and I hope they actually take the advice. We’ll see.
Saffron update — It’s MUCH better now. And the line out the “door” proves it. They really fixed up their food— it’s delicious. Great naan too! (Still a little on the pricey side, but it is downtown LA afterall.)
Saffron’s delicious! Whether it’s “authentic” or not really shouldn’t be an issue. The naan ‘s always fresh, the counter service is not bad, and the portions are just enough - I’ve shared the combo entree with my boyfriend and just saved the rest for later. You could get cheaper Indian food elsewhere (but that would involve driving to the other side of town for lunch ….). I also find the small menu very appealing.
All in all, just great. Love it!
