Downtown Los Angeles Skyline at Night

trader vic’s coming to downtown in 2009

Trader Vic's LogoThe Valencia Group, the restaurant team behind the upcoming Union Restaurant & Bar, has announced plans to open a Trader Vic’s in Downtown next year.

According to a press release issued today, the company is currently scouting locations near the Nokia Theatre and the Staples Center.

“As Los Angeles natives, we’re proud to be part of the Downtown renaissance,” said Valencia. “There’s a rich history of great fine dining restaurants here and, with the increase in residents and businesses relocating Downtown, we think Trader Vic’s will be bustling.”

Trader Vic’s LA will feature the classic tiki decor and atmosphere that helped establish the brand in Beverly Hills. Most nights of the week, the new Downtown location will host live entertainment, including Polynesian dancers and singers. The popular restaurant is also known for its “world famous” mai tai mix and selection of gourmet goods.

The news comes as the highly-lauded second phase of LA Live prepares its fall debut, sure to boost entertainment and dining options to levels not yet seen Downtown. With more big-name businesses wanting in on the action, we’re just now seeing the tip of the iceberg.

According to the PR rep, they’re still considering several locations. The image of 717 Ninth may just be an image of Downtown they’re using.

717 Olympic, Concerto, etc… not bad locations either. I’m glad to hear they’re opening up NEAR LA Live and not at LA Live. Gives the chance to make people walk the hood.

Probably need to get closer to 65k population for the other trader, think we are at 30 or 40 now…
And once we get to 100k we get a nice, new mall! But by that time no one reading this will live here any longer…
