In the ground floor of the Kawada Hotel at 2nd and Hill streets, Trifecta Sports Lounge opened in 2006 as an ultra high-end sports bar with prices to match.

A high-end sports bar surely has a place in Downtown, but the venue’s much-talked-about $15 hot dog was the very essence of nonsensical expectations for the neighborhood.

Following a summertime reorganization and bankruptcy that shuttered the restaurant for several months, Trifecta came back in October with a cheaper menu and a vibe that was substantially scaled back.

Though Trifecta recently closed once again for “renovations,” realtor signs in the windows proclaim the restaurant space is for lease.

This one’s not coming back, folks.

In slightly more upbeat news, Cherry Pick Cafe has just opened up right next door. Specializing in healthy salads and soups, smoothies and coffee, the cafe is a quaint standout in a desolate area of Downtown.

It just goes to show, when one door closes, another one opens.
