After nearly two months of setbacks, Downtown’s new Wokcano is gearing up for its long-awaited debut next week, barring any further approval issues.
Assistant general manager Richard Querney explains that staff members who were hired back in December are being called in for retraining on Wednesday to prepare for the event.
With three other current locations throughout the Los Angeles area (and two more in the works for Santa Monica and Long Beach), some Downtowners may already be familiar with the restaurant’s Asian fusion cuisine, sophisticated atmosphere and late-night hours.
Drawing from the company’s past success in Downtown several years ago at the original location on Figueroa and Olympic, the owners have high hopes for today’s more mature market. The new location is one of the largest in the chain and will offer food and drinks until 2:00am every night of the week, lending some much-needed validity to Downtown’s latent “Restaurant Row.”
The 8,500 square-foot establishment on the ground level of the Barker Brothers Building at 7th and Flower will contain a sushi bar, bar lounge area, and room for approximately 170 patrons in multiple dining spaces.

Wasn’t there already a Wokcano in city west? And one on Fig?
Yes, I mentioned the original location on Fig in this post… that building was demolished years ago.
The one in City West is Tatou - it’s not a true Wokcano, although they sell some of the same food.
I guess it would have served me right to read the WHOLE post…
looks like a great addition to the downtown food landscape. love the late night hours and moderate prices every day. finally one more place to pick from on a sunday night - given that the food is good.
^ Yes ksep…food is good and reasonably priced.
The Fig location didn’t close all that long ago—it was only like two years ago.
It’s nice that the new one will finally open, though.
i would like to come to eat here
