Downtown Los Angeles Skyline at Night

yogurtland announcement for little tokyo baffles the mind

Yogurtland LogoA few weeks ago, we commented about a possible saturation of lounges and coffee shops planned for Downtown… now it seems frozen yogurt chains will be the next gluttonous binge.

Yogurtland, yet another bright and cheerful “healthy” fro-yo clone with locations concentrated in Orange County, has plans to open a shop at 2nd and Central in the former Routes space next to Quiznos.

A representative of Yogurtland states that the space is currently in the design phase with an opening planned for March or April of this year.

UPDATE: No sooner did we publish this piece than we learned that Ce Fiore will be opening another location on 7th Street and Grand Avenue (next to Rite Aid).

Hungry Little Tokyo residents and visitors soon will have a choice between six frozen dessert eateries within a one-block radius: S&W Little Tokyo Ice Cream, Mikawaya, Cefiore, Pinkberry, Piccomolo and now Yogurtland.

Also, the announcement follows last week’s news that Cantaloop has two locales in the works for the Financial District, joining the ranks of Pinkberry, Cefiore, Milano Freezer, Piccomolo, Freli, Ice Kiss and Yogurberry — all of which have locations existing or planned in Downtown.

Are frozen yogurt franchises the only ones available for purchase now? Someone please explain.

Yogurtland rules. Unlike Pinkberry, they have about 10 flavors “on tap,” that is, coming out of a machine, FRESH. You serve yourself and pay by weight. Much better than Pinkberry.

Don’t believe me? There’s one at Sunset & St. Andrews in Hollywood. Try it out for yourself.

LOL, might as well bring in Kiwiberry and Red Mango while they’re at it.

I agree with militant angeleno! that’ll make my fro-yo comparison trip much easier. I’ll just have to make sure have a VERY empty stomach, and bring along some bottle water to cleanse my pallet~~~

Red Mango, Kiwiberry, Pinkberry, Cefiore, Cantaloop, Yogurtland
S&W Little Tokyo Ice Cream, Mikawaya, Piccomolo,
Milano Freezer, Piccomolo, Freli, Ice Kiss and Yogurberry

gosh… are there more names? :-o

Hmm, I waited in line for Yogurtland soon after it opened in Irvine last summer and I can’t say it impressed me all that much. The whole self-serve thing is just an invitation for gross overconsumption, and with so many flavors that you’re liable to end up getting much more than you actually can or want to eat.

Ah well, more power to the fro-yo enthusiasts.

Yogurtland~ well, finally “fro yo” that makes sense. 30cents an ounce, 16 flavors, countless fresh toppings… I am a fro you adict and pinkberry has been a big budget sucker for me. I am sorry but no more peepeeberry, change of heart~

Gee, with the name “pinkberrrocks”, I think accusing someone of working for a company is clearly, in your case, a matter of people living in glass houses not throwing stones. And the comment of “everybody’s hands being all over the food” is a low blow which clearly demonstrates how much class you have.

If you want to start up a East Coast vs. West Coast rap-style battle of Pinkberry vs. Yogurtland, be my guest. I won’t be joining. I’m simply a consumer giving his frank and honest feedback, which is what I thought the internet was about, at least partially.

For the record, I do not work for Yogurtland or any food industry company.

pinkberrocks is the one who works for peepeeberry. Scott, don’t wast your time trying to reply to this rock head. See you all at Yogurland Little Tokyo!!!

I think Pinkberry’s original flavor taste way better than the rest, it just doesn’t match the sour, tart, and tangy pang that pinkberry gives.

tsk tsk
